🎓 ISSCA Certification #8792
Stem cell treatment and regenerative medicine in Medellín, Colombia - Dr. Catalina Henao

Regenerative medicine with stem cells is the most exciting frontier of modern aesthetic medicine. At Dr. Catalina Henao Grajales' clinic at Edificio Forum, Medellín, Colombia, we offer advanced treatments with stem cells, derived exosomes and autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) — all backed by the international ISSCA certification in Point of Care Regenerative Medicine (registration #8792, October 2025).

💡 Quick answers about stem cells

What are stem cells?

Stem cells are undifferentiated cells with the unique ability to self-renew and differentiate into different cell types. In aesthetic medicine we use mesenchymal stem cells and their derivatives (exosomes, growth factors) to stimulate natural tissue regeneration.

What are they used for in aesthetic medicine?

Deep facial rejuvenation, skin quality improvement, scar treatment, hair loss (alopecia), comprehensive anti-aging and, in medical applications, joint pain and tendinitis.

How long do effects last?

Results are progressive: visible from weeks 2-3, peak at 4-6 months. Total duration: 12-24 months depending on protocol.

Who performs the treatment?

Dr. Catalina Henao Grajales, Universidad CES medical doctor with ISSCA Regenerative Medicine certification. 15+ years in aesthetic medicine. Personally performs every procedure.

Is it safe?

Yes, when performed with certified medical-grade products, in an equipped medical office and by a physician with specific training. We work only with derivatives from certified product lines with complete documentation.

What are stem cells and why are they revolutionary?

Stem cells are the master cells of the human body. Unlike differentiated cells (which already have a specific function like skin, muscle or nerve cells), stem cells retain two exceptional properties:

  1. Self-renewal: they can divide and create identical copies of themselves indefinitely.
  2. Differentiation potency: they can transform into other specific cell types (skin, bone, cartilage, muscle, neuron cells, etc.).

This duality is the basis of their regenerative power. When introduced into damaged or aged tissue, stem cells can repair, replace and regenerate that tissue from its most fundamental level — the cellular.

Types of stem cells we use in aesthetic medicine

Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSCs)

The most used adult stem cells in regenerative aesthetic medicine. Obtained from adipose tissue (fat), bone marrow or certified donor umbilical cord. They have immunomodulatory potency (reduce inflammation) and ability to differentiate into connective tissue cells: skin, cartilage, bone. Excellent safety profile documented in thousands of clinical studies.

Stem cell-derived exosomes

Exosomes are extracellular nano-vesicles of 30 to 150 nanometers that stem cells release as chemical messengers. They contain all the "regenerative information" of the stem cell (growth factors, microRNA, proteins) without the cells themselves. They have unique advantages: no critical refrigeration required, they are acellular (no immunological risk) and cross tissue barriers more easily.

Autologous Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)

PRP is not technically stem cells, but it is one of the pillars of regenerative medicine. Obtained from your own blood (autologous, zero rejection risk) and concentrated to release platelets rich in growth factors (PDGF, TGF-β, VEGF, EGF). Often combined with stem cells or exosomes to enhance results.

Stem cell applications in aesthetic medicine

1. Deep facial rejuvenation

More than a superficial treatment, stem cells and exosomes act in the deep dermal plane, stimulating endogenous production of type I and III collagen, improving elastin and increasing the extracellular matrix. Result: firmer, thicker, hydrated skin with better overall quality. Ideal for patients with first signs of aging (35+ years) or as intensive maintenance.

2. Resistant scar treatment

Deep atrophic acne scars (boxcar, ice pick) and traumatic scars that don't respond well to microneedling alone often improve when combined with exosomes applied through Dermapen. Exosomes activate scar fibroblasts and promote tissue remodeling.

3. Androgenetic alopecia and hair revitalization

Scalp application of exosomes combined with PRP stimulates miniaturizing hair follicles (early stage baldness). One of the most effective non-pharmacological treatments for early androgenetic alopecia in men and women. Protocol: 4-6 sessions every 3-4 weeks, then maintenance.

4. Comprehensive anti-aging

For patients who want not just to "look better" but to age better, stem cell anti-aging protocols act at systemic level improving: skin and hair quality, energy, post-exercise recovery, immune function and overall wellness. Requires full prior medical assessment.

5. Joint pain and sports injuries (orthopedic use)

Intra-articular PRP, exosome or stem cell injections in knees, shoulders, elbows or tendons can accelerate healing of tendinitis, mild to moderate arthritis and sports injuries. Often combined with physiotherapy for better recovery.

Frequently asked questions about stem cells

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are multipotent adult stem cells that can differentiate into connective tissue cells: bone, cartilage, muscle and fat. Mainly obtained from adipose tissue, bone marrow or certified umbilical cord.
No, they are different treatments. PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) uses your own concentrated platelets; stem cells are living undifferentiated cells. We often combine them to enhance results.
We work with products derived from certified stem cell lines (mainly from donated umbilical cord with informed consent), processed in laboratories with international quality certification. For PRP we use your own blood. All origin documentation available on consultation.
NO. In aesthetic and anti-aging medicine, stem cells are used for tissue regeneration and rejuvenation, not to cure serious diseases. If someone promises miracle cures with stem cells, it is highly suspicious. We only apply evidence-based applications.
Yes, the regenerative medicine applications we offer (exosomes, PRP, certified derivatives) are legal and regulated. Dr. Catalina Henao has international ISSCA certification.
